Music Monday: Pegasus Warning
THE MUSIC WORLD IS FALLING HARD FOR THE SONIC WITCHCRAFT OF PEGASUS WARNING, WHOSE NAME CAME TO MUSICIAN GUILLERMO E. BROWN IN A DREAM.
Pegasus Warning is nothing less than sonic witchcraft. The spectacular Los Angeles-based musician not only writes and produces his own work, he also plays percussion, sings and is a brilliant performance artist.
Guillermo E Brown is the brilliant mind behind the moniker, which came to him in a dream. “It’s a pitched-down clarion call turned into a drum as a sonic symbol to stay on one’s path and follow through on your dreams,” Brown explained to Pigeons and Planes.
The native New Yorker describes himself as being “born to a Panamanian priest-wizard and an American ethnomusicologist-healer.” Brown began playing music at the age of five, with his exploration led by his grandfather, a percussionist and electrician. In 2010, Pegasus Warning crystallized after touring the world with soul singer Jamie Lidell, who helped produce several tracks for Brown.
Brown relocated to sunnier climate of L.A. and landed a gig as the house drummer for The Late Late Show with James Corden. With a jazz percussion background, Brown creates avant garde R&B infused with rock, jazz, nods to the 90’s and, well … stardust … that fits in with the crowd of mutants and misfits of the city’s gender-bending electronic music scene, but stands out as something truly incredible.
